For the Birds (Atefeh) follows a 16-year-old Iranian girl as she is taken to the gallows to be wrongfully executed. Stripped of all hope, it is in her last moments that she realizes that her fate lies in the voices and actions of the surrounding people who watch her in silence.
For the Birds (Atefeh) is Tara Atashgah’s student thesis film. After months of development, the script is finally approaching production in July 2012. Based on the execution of Atefeh Rajabi Sahaaleh, this film is a reinterpretation of a life interrupted that explores a twist in events. This heart wrenching story seeks to rally action against injustice. The first step is to bring awareness in order to bring change, not only in Iran but around the world.
